01

Preparing for Your Assessment

Once you’ve booked your appointment, we’ll provide everything you need to prepare for your assessment. If you have any questions before your appointment, our team will be happy to help.

02

Structured Clinical Interview

Your assessment begins with a structured clinical interview, giving you the space to describe your experiences in your own words and helping our clinicians understand how ADHD traits show up in your daily life.

03

QbCheck

We use QbCheck, an objective, computer-based measure completed at our Warrington clinic. It is always used alongside clinical interview and questionnaires, never in isolation.

04

Executive Functioning Measures

We use Brown Executive Function Scales and other recognised questionnaires to understand how executive functioning affects everyday life. For children, we also gather information from parents/carers and school to help us understand how ADHD traits may present across different settings.

05

Feedback & Screening Report

Following the assessment, you’ll receive a detailed written report summarising the evidence gathered, whether significant ADHD traits have been identified, and whether onward referral for a formal diagnostic assessment may be appropriate.

Understanding your options

Accessing an ADHD assessment in Liverpool and Merseyside

Deciding how to explore ADHD is a personal choice, and it can be helpful to understand the options available across Liverpool and Merseyside, and what each one leads to.

The NHS in Merseyside

NHS ADHD assessments are usually arranged through your GP, who can discuss a referral to a local service. An NHS pathway leads to a formal diagnostic assessment. As waiting times vary across services, many people choose to explore an independent route if they are seeking an earlier appointment.

NHS Right to Choose

Some people may be able to access a full ADHD diagnostic assessment through the NHS Right to Choose pathway with an approved independent provider. Your GP can advise whether this option is available and appropriate for your circumstances.

An ADHD Screening Assessment with AYC

Our screening assessment identifies whether significant ADHD traits are present and provides a detailed, evidence-based report, usually within a few weeks. It is not a formal diagnosis. If significant traits are identified, we can refer you to our associate Psychiatrist or Paediatrician should you wish to pursue one.
