ADHD Screening Assessments:
NICE-Compliant ADHD Screening
Our ADHD Screening Assessments use evidence-based methods recognised across both the NHS and private sectors and are recommended by NICE (National Institute for Health and Care Excellence). This ensures that your results meet best-practice standards and can be confidently shared with schools and workplaces.
Screening assessments are suitable for children and young people (6–17 years) and adults (18+)
What Does the Screening Assessment Involve?
Questionnaires
Before your appointment, you’ll receive age-appropriate questionnaires to complete and return.
Your appointment will consist of:
QbTest
A computer-based test measuring attention, impulsivity, and activity levels.
This objective data complements clinical interviews and helps identify ADHD-related patterns. NICE recommends the QbTest as an adjunct to ADHD assessment in both children and adults.
Interview
A structured conversation with an experienced clinician exploring developmental history, daily functioning, and ADHD traits.
For children, the parent interview is completed separately while your child waits with a trusted friend or family member (in line with best practice).
Executive Function Review
We explore skills like organisation, planning, memory, and self-regulation as part of the screening— key areas affected by ADHD.
How Long Does It Take?
- Appointments usually available within 4 weeks
- Screening duration: around 2 hours
- Report provided: within 4–6 weeks
After your Screening Assessment:
You’ll receive a comprehensive, evidence-based report within 4–6 weeks.
Why Our Reports Matter
Our structured reports are detailed and can help with:
- A better understanding yourself and/or your child
- Educational and University support plans
- Evidence to request workplace adjustments under the Equality Act
- Providing evidence for onward referral
Even without a formal diagnosis, your screening report is valid evidence of your needs and can make a real difference to everyday life.
Why have a Screening Assessment?
A screening assessment can be extremely valuable, even if you do not wish to pursue a full diagnosis.
Benefits include:
- A clearer understanding of you (or your child’s) attention, organisation, and impulsivity profile.
- Evidence to request support under the Equality Act 2010. You don’t need a confirmed diagnosis to access reasonable adjustments.
- Evidence to support school and workplace accommodations.
- Practical links and signposting to resources to help you move forward confidently.
- Shorter waiting times and signposting to our partner organisations, where appropriate. Referral to our partner Psychiatrist or Paediatricians if you wish to continue to a full diagnostic assessment.
The screening report can help you to improve understanding of yourself or your child, and give you confidence (and evidence) to ask for the support you might need.
Principles That Guide Our Practice
At AYC, we take a strengths-based and neuro-affirmative approach to all that we do, recognising ADHD as a natural variation in how people think, learn, and experience the world. We recognise the importance of understanding strengths and celebrating individuality, as well as identifying challenges.
We ensure that our ADHD screening assessments are scheduled promptly, with minimal waiting times, and that the outcomes are delivered clearly, accessibly, and in a timely manner. Our aim is for every person to feel respected, understood, and supported throughout their experience with us.
Our ADHD Screening Service is dedicated to empowering individuals and families by providing accurate information, meaningful insights, and, where appropriate, signposting to trusted sources of further support or assessment.
